As another year drifts into the horizon, we find ourselves doing what we always do when we need perspective: looking to the ocean. It has a way of putting things in context. Big waves, tiny shells, powerful storms, raging white caps, sea lions playing, quiet mornings. It is endless motion that is somehow deeply grounding. If the ocean could talk, we imagine it would say something like “Relax, and keep moving.” Just like the continuous energy cycles of the waves that keep coming to shore, like willed forward by invisible powerful forces.
This past year, the ocean reminded us first and foremost to slow down. Tides don’t rush, and neither should we. In a world that celebrates speed and convenience, the sea operates on its own schedule. We try to reflect that lesson in how we operate, choosing thoughtful design over quick fixes, quality over quantity, authentic help and service to our customers as they need it, and products meant to be used and loved for years and years.
The ocean also offered a powerful reminder about resilience. The ocean is constantly changing, adapting, and it keeps showing up every day, like what feels like a bottomless well of resources, life and inspiration. Calm one moment, wild the next. That adaptability inspired us to keep going through challenges, to adjust course when needed, and to trust that even rough waters shall ultimately pass.
Another lesson we’re carrying forward is to take only what you need. The ocean is generous, but it thrives on balance. When disrupted, that balance has rippling effects that can be felt worldwide. This year reinforced why we care so deeply about plastic-free living and mindful consumption. Every reusable swap, every long-lasting product, every small choice matters more than we sometimes think.
And yes, the ocean also reminded us to find joy. In salty hair, the prickling sensation of cold water on the skin, the floaty feeling of moving while under sails, and those moments when you spot a dolphin and everything else fades away. We want to keep our mission to protect the ocean to be rooted in wonder, love and play.
