There is an interesting, albeit quick, story behind our Aprons. 5 or so years ago I (Albatross founder: Andrew) was walking around on the French Polynesian island of Tahiti when I came across this really cool mural of a crab on the side of a building. I saw it and immediately turned to the friend I was with and without hesitation said, "I want to put this on an Apron."
Now, up until that point I had never even worn an apron, so the feeling that was triggered in me that day to create my own was indeed a bit bizarre! I suppose it makes some sense though as I was becoming more and more fascinated by cooking delicious, sustainable seafood. And, of course, loving to share these meals with friends, good discussion, and community.
Now you might still be wondering: An Apron? But actually, depending on what you're making, an Apron is an underappreciated part of the kitchen. Its use could lend itself well to sustainable living too.
If you cook, or splash a bunch of water while doing dishes, and wear nice clothes, then you should have an Apron!
Seemingly simple, the humble Apron will help keep in check the endless cycle of fast-fashion by preserving your clothes for longer. It's actually a pretty easy way to protect your garment investments. Isn't that what we should be doing anyway? Investing in clothes that last a while, taking care of them so they last longer, and buying fewer, but better quality, clothes in the long run?
